National college football champs LSU kicked their back up quarterback, Ryan Perrilloux off the team. Perrilloux's father recently died on February 7 and he had been getting into other trouble, including being late or missing practices and class. You can read more here.
In case anyone was wondering, no Nebraska football players were taken in the first two rounds of the 2008 nfl draft. Rounds 3-7 are tomorrow (Sunday), so hopefully some will get taken then!
Here's a list of the players drafted to the NFL (minus Nebraska and Iowa players!) here. Continue

Quick stats on this kid: he can bench-press 225 pounds 12 times, run the 40 in 4.62 seconds, and he sings in the choir. Quite an all around individual! He'll probably play as a WILL linebacker.
After attending the spring game he was quoted as saying, "The tradition and pride in that program is mind blowing". Well, thanks Shawn Bodtmann! Glad to h… Continue

Alright Men. It's almost here. A new start for a new team and a new coach. God knows it was hard for the pride of all Nebraska fans to watch what happened last year go down. I know us Husker fans are always excited to start the next year, but this year it seems like we are more excited. I am guessing it's because we know we can't do worse than last year! Right! Never was a fan of Callahan ever since our trip to USC. In my opinion, He single handedly tore this Husker program apart. Sure, we can p… Continue

Wow, the Cornhusker baseball team pounded the Creighton Bluejays last night. Read more here...
Also, who has are the Husker standouts so far this spring? Well, for starters: Tyler Wortman, Barry Turner, Kevin Dixon, Marcus Mendoza, Anthony West, and the easily mispronounced Curenski Gilleylen. Read more about our spring standouts… Continue

What a beautiful day in Huskerland in what was probably the most anticipated game in years. The Red guys against the White guys. The stadium was packed for the first time in team history for a Spring "Practice".
The feelings in the stands when the team came out to do pregame drills was crazy. It was a dawn of a new era, with new players in the mix, which made it a lot of fun. Watching Adi Kunalic kicking field goals from 40+ yards through the uprights and over the net was incredible. Watching D… Continue

Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of both NFL and college football, but college football just seems a little more special to me. I'm sure other Husker fans would agree with me! Since our nearest pro team is the Chiefs (or Broncos for some), we've probably been a little conditioned to lean towards the Skerz. That's all we got!
Here's a great article on the difference between college and pro fo…Continue

Just finished a great article on Penn State coach, JoePa here. Dang, 81 years old is pretty old!
Did you know he still watches football tapes, not DVDs? He says that if something is working for him, why change it. It's a pretty good read. He's an icon to the Nittany Lions, just like Dr. Tom is for us Cornhuskers.… Continue

These last few days of sports radio there has been a lot of talk about the new NFL schedules for the 2008-2009 season. I can't wait for the college season to start, but I'm getting excited about the NFL season as well!
Simply put, the Patriots got a gift with their opponents in the upcoming season. Roughly only a third of their opponents had winning records this past season.
You can get the ful…Continue

Well, just got done watching the Nebraska men's basketball team lose to Kansas for the third time this season. I'm sure everyone thought that we were going to get blown out by twenty plus points, similar to the first two times we played KU. This time was different!
I didn't tune into the game until after the tip off, but watched from about 12 minutes left in the first half until the final buzzer. FIrst off, I couldn't believe that we were leading at half-time! Our defense was play… Continue

I'm new to Huskerspot.com, but I have had a blog devoted to the Huskers for a while now. This is my latest entry in that blog. To read other posts, just click here and you will be directed to my blog.
Originally I planned on breaking down the recruiting class at great lengths in this post, but when I realized that every other single Husker blogger had already done that, I quickly soured on that idea. Speaking of those breakdowns, I wanted to… Continue

I think we all knew it was just a matter of time until Tom Osborne was talked into staying at that position. This is a wonderful thing, so we don't have to worry about some outsider coming in and trying to change the program. Continue

Here are some different people's perspectives on Nebraska's Coach Pelini and former Husker Pederson I've found while on the world wide web. Some great stuff here.
First of all I want to say how happy I am that Bo Pelini is the Huskers new coach. I am so stoked that Bo is the new head coach of my Huskers I could kiss Tom Osborne right on the mouth .As far as I am concerned this is the best news I have heard out of Huskerville since that idiot Steve Pederson passed on… Continue

I noticed the new poll on this site asking if Bo Pelini is the right coach for the Huskers. I was very surpised to see the more people chose "Wait and see".
Can anyone tell me why Bo is not the right coach? If everything he has accomplished in his career and the changes that he has made at Nebraska since he started don't make you want to camp out right now at Memorial Stadium until the spring game then please tell me what are you waiting for.
Looks like coach is doing a great job getting some of the old staff back in place. This can only mean good things for the program. GO BIG RED ! Continue

The last couple of weeks have been hell to watch on TV and listen to on the radio. All the talk is of who will coaching where, speculation speculation everywhere.
ESPN made many mistakes during this period, including saying the Bo Pelini was out of the running and that Les Miles was going to Michigan. Kirk Herbstreit even went so far as to say on Game Day that Miles had taken the job at Michigan, which prompted Miles to have an impromptu press conference to state just the opposite.…
Bo Pelini is definitely the fan favorite for being the next Huskerfootball coach. I'm taking down the poll on the HuskerSpot home page today, since the search for the new Husker coach has been (supposedly) narrowed down to Bo Peilni and Turner Gill.
The final tally of the "new Husker coach" poll is:… Continue

I am very stressed by the current coaching search because it is so important that we get it right this time. We cannot survive another botched selection. Living in North Carolina, I really feel we could not go wrong with Jim Grobe. No coach has done more with less talent than Grobe on an annual basis. However, I am still leaning towards Bo because I know he would bring intensity that has been missing for 4 years.
After watching what I could of the games this year we need more then a new coach.
Yes that is the place to start but we need to get the players to really buy into the fact as to what NU football is all about. It is TEAM not one or two stars. We have never really been a team of stars. Yes a star will riase up but not at the cost of the team. We call them the black shirts why? Becuase they where a team. Yes there where good players who will stand out but they did not make very tackle. Ca…
Husker Holiday Deals - great savings on Husker Gear Members of HuskerSpot - I've done some bargain shopping for you!
As creator of HuskerSpot, I spend a lot of time on the internet - emailing, reading about the Huskers, and buying Husker clothes and merchandise. For your convenience, I've compiled a list of websites that offer some great deals on Husker gear, Nebraska Cornhusker merchandise, etc.
I survived my trek to Boulder with the help of the fine folks at Budweiser and whatever company makes those hand and foot warmers. It was probably the coldest game that I have ever been to.
As for the game itself, it was a fitting end to the Callahan-Cosgrove era. Another HUGE scoring situation from an average football team, that we made to look brilliant.
Thanks everyone for participating in the first HuskerSpot.com poll! The results for this poll "Will Nebraska beat Colorado and reach a bowl game?" are as follows:
Yes: 69% (20 votes)
No:31% (9 votes)
Too bad the poll didn't help our guys out on the field on Saturday..... oh, well.
There will be more polls to follow, so stay tuned!
Navy coach Paul Johnson seems to have a good resume and sounds like the type of person husker nation is crying for. HC experience, good clean program, beats teams as an underdog and is ready to have more talented players under his watch so he can do the same at a "higher level". One vote for Johnson. Continue

You know, as much as i hated pederson for what he did to the huskers, I owe him a whole lot of gratitude. If it wasnt for him, I would not be at all the home games now. I probably might of been down the road, but that may have never happened. I owe him for being able to purchase some season tickets. If we wouldnt have built the addition to the North endzone, I never would have had the opportunity to put in and win the opportunity go get season tickets. I wasnt all that enthusiastic about how…

Nebraska has supposedly signed two top ten classes under Callahan. Now I see they give up 50 points and 600 yards a game. Can anybody coach up in Lincoln? When is the last time Cosgrove made an adjustment? Who cares if it worked, just trying it would be a surprise. Invite you all to root for LSU, you get to watch Bo Pelini in action again....not too bad. Continue
There's a new Husker football book out, written by a current college student of the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. It's called, "The Nebraska Way" by Jonathan Crowl. There has been a lot of talk about this new book - especially with the current coaching situation. Note: I haven't started this book yet, but I have heard that "by the time you reach the end of this book you see clearly how
wrong guys like Callahan and Pederson are for Nebraska, and how right guys like

Well, we went into the Kansas game excited to watch Joe Ganz in his first start as a Husker. He did amazingly well, despite the 4 turnovers. He was actually on pace to put up better numbers than Zac Taylor and Sam Keller. Mo Purify looked outstanding, as did the rest of the recieving corps, but trying to keep pace with a top 10 juggernaut was not in the cards. I was completely satisfied with the offensive playcalling on Saturday. We were able to do things that no other KU opponent had done al…
Ok, let me start this off by saying - as I'm typing this, I see just to the right of where I'm typing - an auction for a Kansas Jayhawks Football ticket with a starting price of $6.08. Yes, let me repeat this - Kansas v. Huskers ticket at $6.08!! No big surprise though, right!? Especially with the performance of the Husker defense lately.

Joe Ganz is what everyone is talking about in Husker football this week. How will he do? Can he spark the Huskers to another win before this unpredictably horrible season comes to a close? Only time will tell - I seriously can't wait for Saturday's game.
The one part of Ganz's game that I'm most excited about is his running ability. Husker National has only seen him in limited snaps this season so no one really knows how effective Ganz will be. I sort of see him as a more… Continue

Since Keller is out for the Huskers, Joe Ganz is getting the nod to start for Nebraska. Everyone seems to have only great things to say about him, so I'm pretty excited to see what he can do on the field!
Callahan and the crew are supporting Ganz all the way, saying he is ready to make an impact on the field. I hope he is too, maybe this quarterback change is something that might spark the Huskers to pull out a win or two in their remaining two games. Only two more wins an… Continue

While stumbling around the internet, I came upon this Bill Callahan Husker Rumor! Naturally, none of this can be proven and it is only a rumor. It's pretty interesting and helps to pass the time while there isn't any football on tonight. No NFL Sunday night game:(

since St. Louis' offense is having so much trouble the boosters are

I just got done watching the best Husker Game of the Year! Even though we lost, there was absolutely NOTHING to be ashamed of. We came into the game 21 point underdogs and were in the game til the 4th quarter. A 3 point loss on the road to a ranked team equals an OUTSTANDING effort by the good guys.
From the outset of the 1st quarter NU outplayed the Horns, faltering only in the 4th quarter where the Defense started letting Charles run free. The Defense blitzed a few too many times and…
I was watching the news last night and they reported that Husker fans are on a steep decline, concerning traveling to away games. They said that they are seeing about 10% of the normal husker fan business than they are used to. For instance, they usually can fill up 7 to 8 buses when traveling to away games, like the Texas game this Saturday.
Guess how many they are filling this year?
ONE. Executive travel said that they have only had 15 people sign up for… Continue

Strong teams have a strong defense first. Perhaps this defense is on the right track now that the players have turned in their blackshirts. It must have hurt to turn those back in. It shows they have an understanding of the tradition, the blackshirts dictated. To me it says this group of men are on the right track to improving. To earning their blackshirts back. Will it happen this year, there is not much time left, but I think the talent is there. The only question I have is the desire there. Continue
Another loss for our aimless Huskers. Although the Defense did show up for the first half, they were crushed in the 2nd. That Triple Option thing REALLY WORKS!! Holy Cow, we stopped using that offense, what 4 years ago, and somebody is still using it effectively??? They have the 8th rated rushing offense in the country. Didn't we used to dominate in that catagory a few years ago? Of course we couldn't pass for 2000 yards in a season if the other team stayed off the field…

The Cornhusker football season ticket holders are standing firm on keeping their season tickets. They are in it for the long haul (post Callahan area, I presume)
I only got to listen to a little bit of the Husker game on the radio today, but it seemed like the team played with a more desire than they had been playing with. Even though we lost, I think they showed a little improvement. What does anybody else think?
I thought we'd keep the game a little closer too, we were favorites by 2 points. So much for that... Continue

Now that TO has taken the reigns of the athletic department, his focus will mostly be on the Football team as the rest of the programs seem to be pretty darn good. His major obstacle will be getting Callahans support, and as yet I haven't even heard him mention Tom's name in a news conference. Not the best way to show respect to the man who put this team into orbit with 3 championships to his credit.
Ever since the firing and bringing in Tom, I've been scanning the net, just like all o…
Yeah. Jazzman Avila. Homegrown talent! Just announced he has decided to try out as a promising strong safety at NEBRASKA! He did not play this last year due to a religious mission. But he has now been training in full old style form as a D-1 athlete and is ready to reinstall some old school back into the HUSKERS! And He is also wiling to try his
impenetrable skills out as fullback. He has claimed that Thomas Lawson,
our starting fullback, has no guile or wherewithal
I didn't get to see who wrote this but, it is fantastic!
Tom Osborne's program at Nebraska was not "one of the best" in the nation. It was the best, period. The talking heads and teleprompter readers love to rattle off names like Michigan, Ohio State, and USC. Looking back at the last quarter of a century, nobody dominated college football like Nebraska. Osborne won three national titles in four seasons, and came within a single play of winning four straight. His Husker dynasty was… Continue
Tom Osborne, former coach of Nebraska football, will be named the new athletic director at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln today. There is a press conference at 5:15 p.m. today when the announcement will be official.
It is unknown at this time as to whether the Husker Athletic Director position is an interim or permanent position.
Harvey Perlman announces that he will look for a Steve Pederson replacement, as fast and smartly as possible. (I'm listening to the press conference right now). He said that he will consult former Nebraska coach Tom Osborne in the search for a new Husker Athletic Director. More Husker news to come.... Continue

It's been 24 hours since the devastation that happened yesterday. I'm still not sure if it has totally sunk in. OUR Nebraska Cornhuskers played absolutely terrible. After reading the papers, watching the news, and listening to a few sports talk stations I am hearing all of these amazing statistics that further prove how awful the Huskers have been playing. How is a dedicated Husker fan supposed to react?
