Live from BugahaWest: The future is bright, hopefully (OU) Sooner than later

Dear Fellow Husker Fans,

Whew, what a game this past weekend. I was quite excited for this one. I stayed up after work considering the really early start for AZ. (I love DST sometimes). The 9 AM start (for AZ) I thought might have some affect on our Big Red, but for the first half, things were looking great. The D set the tone early with the punt block for TD and offensively, we were doing everything I was hoping for, running the ball well and mixing some good passing by Cody Green. Things were looking fine, except for the fact the offense was still settling for field goals. Then, the second quarter started and things slowly went sour. Yeah, there was the rushing TD by Robinson, but that was about it.

Second half I really don't want to talk about. It was ugly, case closed. The crap that was going on in Waco will not get the job done in Lincoln this weekend. 3 and outs and realistically if Robert Griffen played in this game, it might have been even closer. Yeah, we finally had a few breaks go our way in the missed FG and the sure TD pass that was dropped late in the game. Fact is, this team offensively has no identity on offense. I don't care who is at QB, without a healthy oline and healthy RB, this is going to be a long remainder of the season. I guess Trey Robinson even left Waco with a "stinger". Is this the same type of stinger that Roy Helu has had since the end of the Mizzou game? If so, then offensively we are snake bitten. Catch a break, it turns into a broken body part it seems like.

Keep the faith though Big Red Nation. There is good reason for this, we are 1 win away from being bowl eligible and there is I believe still 3 winnable games (KSU, KU, CU). This week against OU is going to be interesting and only because what oru D has done the past few weeks. Jared Crick, Disruptor Suh, Turner, and the rest of the D is playing great football right now. Crick took advantage of SUh taking on most of the Baylor oline to have a career game with 5 sacks and 13 total tackles. I was hearing Crick's name called so much I though he and Suh changed numbers for this game. The fact is, Suh was constantly facing double and triple teams, leaving other guys on the line wide open to take unabated shots at the Baylor ball carriers. The Blackshirts are earning the moniker (no matter what Pelini says).

So, what do we take out of this game. Quite simply a win is a win. Guys, I said it last week and I will repeat it right now. SInce February most of Husker Nation has been circling 2010 as the year and this year was going to be a good if not great appetizer. Yeah, I spiked my kool-aid at the beginning of the year predicted a 11-1/10-2 season and injury/off the field issues not withstanding I still believe that would have been achievable (especially after the help OU's oline was giving their QBs). Fact is, make the rundown guys of people we are missing: Q Castille is in southern LA; Roy Helu Jr has been running hurt behind a not so great oline since the end of the Mizzou game; Blake Lawrence quit football due to concussions (this is big cause he's a big heart guy); the oline is missing Burkes again (will he ever suit up for the Big Red) and now Trey Robinson looks like he might be running hurt for awhile. Husker Nation, do not fret, this season is far from over and these guys are playing through the adversity instead of laying over and playing dead. That in itself is a much better sign than the way things were going in the lost era. Don;t forget that and thing will be fine. Oh yeah, I picked NU against the spread this week. Go Huskers

Before I leave you with a final thought, I want to put a plug in for my new column at bleacherreport.com. I will try to write weekly column in the sports in society section under the heading of A cup of coffee. Don't fret Nate, Jason, Lisa, and the rest of my loyal readers out there. This column will just be a basic opinion pieces on my thoughts covering a wide variety of sports subjects and thoughts. Huskerpedia will be my main draw and will continue to get my weekly BugahaWest football recap. Take a look over there and tell me what you think. Heck, if you have a idea for future opinion piece for me, leave a comment, ask a question, and I'll give it a whirl for the next piece.

Well, thank you for taking the time to read my post and thank you for your comments. We'll have to do it again next week. God bless and Go Big Red.

Chris
