This is a good philosophy and very true. This team could still end up 8-4 and in my estimation that would be a definite plus over where we were.

I like the way the program is headed and it may take a couple years to get back to a major contender status, but I really feel like we will be the North Champion next year. With the kids that are red shirting and some of the new recruits, we could be a 9-3 or 10-2 team.
Even if we just go 8-4 next year, we will play more consistent and better 'D'.

All these kids have to do is keep their heads up and continue to work to improve. They have shown that they will fight to the end, no matter what the score. That in itself is a huge improvement over last year.
I think an 8-4 final record with a bowl game would be a successfull season especially compared to last year. (Atleast it would be a winning record.) We obviously knew that the odds were against us going into the OU game. So we really couln't ask for a win just for them to play hard and fight. I don't know that they played extremely hard but come on, they tried. Yeah our defense probably wishes they didn't give up 62 points but this Oklahoma squad is a great football team and coming into the year I thought they would be a strong contender in the National Championship picture. Possibly out of the picture now but they're still a great team. We couln't expect the Huskers to be a great, great team coming in the season, but they have vastly improved from last year. And I think they will continue to do so until were back in the picture. Keep the head up and GBR!!!!
I know that our players need to relearn the game after the last several years. I can see that they are playing harder, and more like a team. I know that if this game was last year it would have been 100-14. However, I was really hoping to hold our own on this one. You're right, the season is not over. So, I'm moving past it. Time to focus on Kansas. Lets get 3 more wins, then win the Bowl. We can have 9 wins yet.
Take out that first quarter debacle and we could have had a chance. Things started off badly and there was no way to come back from that kind of let down. The guys made the effort and came out with some respect for themselves on offense. The D still has a way to go, but Joe has the perseverance to continue leading the team through the rest of the season.

I still think that 7 wins is going to be a successful season. 8 would be fantastic, but 7 gets us a bowl and another week to show that we are on the upswing.

The Athlete's Prayer

Lord, in the battle that goes on through life
I ask but a field that is fair
A chance that is equal with all in strife,
And courage to strive and to dare.
And if I should win, let it be by the code,
With my faith and honor held high;
And if I should lose,
let me stand by the road
And cheer as the winner goes by.

If we expect the Husker Football Team to play hard than we as fans need to show that dedication back to them. As a person I am not big on excuses, I understand that they did not play well against the Sooners, or for that matter Mizzou. I am not going to be a fair weather fan that only am happy with wins. I am not happy with what I saw, but I am not going to throw in the towel, and be negative. Every Saturday is a new opportunity for a win...and we are playing in the toughest Conference in the NCAA.

The CODE is good for the players it is also good enough for me as a fan to follow!
I've seen that prayer with different words. And on the Husker tunnel walk video I can't exactly tell which ones are right.

"I ask for a chance that's fair" or "Field that's fair"
"a chance to equal all our stipes" or "strife"
"a chance to do or dare" or "courage to strive and dare"

any idea which one is actually right? web searches leave me more confused.
The one that the Huskers have used is this one.

In the battles we go through in life. We ask for a chance that is fair. A chance to equal all your stripes, a chance to do or dare.

And if we should win let it be by the code with our faith and honor held high.

And if we lose let us stand by the road and cheer as the winners go

DAY BY DAY WE GET BETTER AND BETTER! A TEAM THAT CAN'T BE BEAT!!! WON'T BE BEAT!!
thank you, that's what I thought it was. Even the shirts they sell don't all agree. Anyone have the audio of Grant Wistrom saying it? Might be good for one of my vids.
Let's not forget that the best team that we have beaten this year is Western Michigan....no better than the 4th best team in it's own state (behind MSU, UM and Central Michigan)...or the 5th best if we consider perennial Div II National Champions Grand Valley State.

Wins over San Jose State, New Mexico State, Iowa State and Baylor prove little.

We have taken 22 beatings since being 11-0 on the day after Thanksgiving 2001.

1) CU 62-36 (2001)
2) MIAMI 37-14 (2001)
3) PSU 40-7 (2002)
4) KSU 49-13 (2002)
5) IAST 36-14 (2002)
6) MU 41-24 (2003)
7) TX 31-7 (2003)
8) KSU 38-9 (2003)
9) TT 70-10 (2004)
10) OU 30-3 (2004)
11) KSU 45-21 (2004)
12) MU 41-24 (2005)
13) KU 40-15 (2005)
14) MU 41-6 (2007)
15) USC 28-10 (2006)
16) USC 49-31 (2007)
17) OKSU 45-14 (2007)
18) TAM 36-14 (2007)
19) KU 76-39 (2007)
20) CU 65-51 (2007)
21) MU 52-17 (2008)
22) OU 62-28 (2008)

POINTS SCORED?

OPPONENTS 1014 UNL 407

AVERAGE Score: OPPONENTS 46 UNL 18

Other than blind faith, what reason do we have to believe that this will go away anytime soon?

We have only (2) 4 Star recruits for 2009 and we lose Ganz.

Our defense is no better than it was last year....it is simply a matter of our playing a weaker schedule + we did play very well vs. Texas Tech.

Had we not been massacred by OU and MU, I'd feel better about Texas Tech. Now that game looks like a fluke.

Bo is a defense-minded coach. Right now, our offense is way ahead of our defense!
