\Today a couple of us has a discussion on IA and their chances to make the playoffs. Obviously if they go undefeated and win the conference championship, they will be in. What scenario do you believe will be the better option for IA to make the playoffs should they suffer a loss?
1) IA remains undefeated up until the CC. Loses a tight game (say 2-3 points) to an undefeated tOSU.
2) IA loses to a 6-6 NU team. Goes to the CC and defeats an undefeated tOSU.
Obviously there's lots of different results around the country where perhaps either of these outcomes could still result the same. The question is, which of these do you feel gives IA the GREATEST chance to get to the 4 team playoff in the eyes of the committee?
If tOSU is the east representative, Iowa would have to run the table to make the playoffs. If MSU or Michigan go undefeated and a 1 loss Iowa team played a great game and won the ccg, I see the real possibility of 2 big ten teams in the playoffs. Similar to a couple of years ago. Iowa has the easiest road to the playoffs of all big ten teams. If they have a loss and play a 1 loss east representative, there is a strong possibility that a 1 loss Alabama or Georgia gets the nod and the big ten is not represented like a couple years ago. Lots of football left, my bet is Iowa finds at least 1 if not 2 losses and makes a new years six game.
If Iowa suffers a loss early and still wins the BIG 10 Championship, the only way they may get in is if there are other one loss teams being considered.
The only way Iowa will even be considered is if they are Undefeated.
as usual you left out what part of the discussion was. you stated that a lowa lost wasn't as important to them because they could still win a playoff birth with a victory in the cc. meanwhile nebraska may be playing for a bowl game and need a win.I disagreed 1000 percent I stated it would perhaps take 25 years for a lowa fan to get over a lost which would end the dream of a undefeated season to a 6-6 Nebraska team which has the possibility of costing them a playoff appearance with a lost. I stated I think most Nebraska fans could get over a Nebraska lost to lowa and perhaps what missing out to the ground hog bowl in what Montana playing the south utah something in probably 25 minutes or less.
right now there are Georgia Alabama Iowa the east division of the big ten winner, Oklahoma and Cincinnati as the favorite. If all the teams win out until there championship game more then likely the team left out more then likely will be Cincinnati. however the team which should lose will probably be left out. THEREFORE NONE OF THESE TEAMS CAN LOSE A GAME BEFORE THERE CC OR WILL PROBABLY BE LEFT OUT OF THE PLAYOFFS. THEREFORE IOWA FOR EXAMPLE WOULD PROBABLY BE LEFT OUT IF THEY SHOULD LOSE TO SAY A 6-6 NEBRASKA TEAM
I GUESS I AM CURIOUS WHAT IN THE HELL DOES A NEBRASKA LOST AND THE CC WIN RELATED IN ANY WAY. THE TRUTH IS THERE IS A REAL CHANCE THAT IOWA COULD MISS OUT ON THE PLAYOFFS IF THEY LOSE OUT TO SAY A 6-6 UNRANKED NEBRASKA TEAM
right now their are 5 teams which looks like the favorite for four spots. more then likely the teams will be Alabama Georgia olkhoma and the big ten champions with Cincinnati being the team left out. HOWEVER MORE THEN LIKELY EACH OF THESE TEAMS WILL NEED TO WIN OUT BEFORE THEIR CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP . iF any of these teams should lose a game they will probably be left out and need help with someone losing.
I MYSELF WOULD BE VERY NERVIOUS FOR IOWA FANS THE NEBRASKA GAME FOR THEM MAY BE THE MOST IMPORTANT GAME IN SCHOOL HISTORY
MEANWHILE FOR NEBRASA FANS THE 6-6 RECORD IF THEY ARE PLAYING FOR THIS RECORD IT WILL BE THE WORST RECORD A NEBRASKA TEAM SUFFERED FROM 1962 TO 2003.
the games are not related in any way as far as if you lose or win one of them. however this is my opinion I would much rather go to the big ten championship game and lose then lose to a 6-6 nonrated team the last game of the season.
I guess I am curious how can lowa suffer a lost to an undefeated Ohio state team when ohio state have already lost one game.
the committee will look at the wins and the losses of the teams and judge both bowl games and playoff team. If i had to pick a lost I would much prefer a lost to perhaps a number one team in the nation to a unrated 6-6 team no matter what the circumstances are
So you vote option 2. Sweet. We know OSU has lost. Didn’t know I needed to clarify “undefeated in conference”.
